Jeremy Chevrier and his family were living in Bamako, Mali for 8 years, until the fighting broke out in 2012. At that time, they were operating the well known Djembe Hotel.

Jeremy’s been studying djembe music for over 20 years now. He is credited with starting the first all-djembe record label: “Rootsy Records.”

He is interested in the ancient, oldstyle sound as well as esoteric aspects of djembe, like spirit possession.

Jeremy has some very interesting things to say about his experiences learning djembe. I interviewed him in his current home in Dakar, Senegal.
